Telemedicine or in-person visit: when each one makes sense
Not every consultation requires you to travel, and not every one can be resolved at a distance. Knowing which is which saves you time and avoids a second appointment for something that could have been settled at once.

When a remote consultation is usually enough
Some reasons resolve well by talking, reviewing your history, and adjusting what was already in place:
- Reviewing lab results
- Follow-up on a known, stable condition
- Questions about a medication or its effects
- Guidance on a mild symptom to decide whether a visit is needed
When it is better to come in
When something needs to be examined, measured, or sampled, an in-person visit cannot be substituted:
- Pain that needs a physical exam
- Wounds, injuries, or skin and foot problems
- Lab draws, vaccines, or procedures
- New symptoms without a clear explanation
- A full annual check-up
When in doubt, call and ask
If you are unsure which applies, describe the reason when you request the appointment and the team will guide you. It is better to adjust the visit type beforehand than to arrive at a consultation that does not resolve what you needed.
Signs that cannot wait
There are situations where neither option applies and immediate emergency care is required: chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking, or bleeding that will not stop.
In those cases, call 911 or go to an emergency room. Do not wait for an appointment.
